Luweero Netball Club Eyes Strong Comeback in 2025 Netball Super League

After a two-year break, the Uganda Netball Super League is finally set to make its long-awaited return. According to the newly released 2025 activity calendar by Netball Uganda, the league is scheduled to tip off on April 5, 2025, marking a fresh chapter for the sport following a period of significant uncertainty.

In 2023, the Uganda Netball Federation faced a major setback when the National Council of Sports (NCS) revoked its certificate of recognition over concerns related to governance. The then-president, Sarah Babirye Kityo, was suspended, triggering a broader restructuring process. In response, World Netball intervened by establishing a Normalisation Committee, tasked with restoring order and credibility.

Led by Chairman Moses Mwase, the committee implemented several reforms, including a rebrand—changing the federation’s name from Uganda Netball Federation to simply Netball Uganda. By October 2024, a new president, Jocelyn Ucanda, was elected unopposed, signaling a new era of leadership and optimism.

As teams gear up for the return of competitive netball, one name to watch is the Luweero Netball Club. After a two-year hiatus from top-flight action, the club is eager to make a strong comeback in the 2025 season. With renewed energy and a focus on performance, Luweero is setting its sights on not just participating but competing at the highest level.

“We’ve been working hard behind the scenes during the break,” a club representative shared. “This comeback means everything to us, and we’re ready to show what Luweero can do.”

The Super League will run through to November 2025, though full fixtures and match venues are yet to be confirmed.

Domestically, fans can also look forward to the National Novices and Rally competitions in February and March, respectively. Additionally, the lower division league is set to begin on April 26, further boosting grassroots participation.

With new leadership, restored structure, and the return of beloved teams like Luweero Netball Club, netball in Uganda looks poised for a powerful revival in 2025.
